Route 1 has a designated bicycle lane for those seeking asphalt for both biking and running. The traffic buzzing by at 55 mph, however, can be unnerving and treacherous especially during peak season, so use extreme caution.
For Sea Colony guests, a peaceful alternative is available in the form of footpaths that wind though the property. A jogging trail map is available at the Fitness Center. And of course, you can always walk or run on the beach ...
For competitive souls, Sea Colony holds an annual Triathlon in September to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and an annual Turkey Trot around Thanksgiving. See www.seacolonyrecreation.com for details.
The Assawoman Wildlife Area and Delaware State Parks including Fenwick Island and Delaware Seashore State Park offer excellent birding and hiking opportunities.
